Updated: Mar 27, 2023

Dadaab Collective Freelancing Agency officials and a few of its freelance members attended a recent study tour organized by NRC/EMOBILIS in Nairobi, where they gained valuable skills and knowledge about how to succeed in the online marketplace and how to build a bright future by thriving in it.

The online marketplace has become increasingly competitive, and freelancers need to acquire new skills and knowledge to stay ahead of the game. The study tour has provided an opportunity for refugee freelancers to learn new skills and techniques that they can use to enhance their work. Through attending the workshop and training sessions, they can expand their knowledge and expertise in their field.

The study tour was not only enjoyable but also educative, as it exposed participants to different perspectives on freelancing and entrepreneurship. During the workshop, members learned how to become successful online freelancers, the various online market opportunities available, and the importance of networking with other successful freelancers in Kenya. ”The study tour organized by NRC/EMOBILIS was a game-changer for me as a freelancer who is new to the industry. I was able to acquire valuable skills and knowledge that would help me become successful in the online market, as well as broaden my horizons and inspire me to take my freelancing career to the next level”. Said Kauthar Dubat who is new to the freelancing industry.

She never thought that she would one day come to Nairobi and network with professionals and gurus in the freelancing industry. It was an amazing experience for Kauthar Dubat, a new freelancer who is so passionate and interested in the online industry, to be part of the study tour. She gained valuable skills and knowledge that would help her become successful in the online market, as well as broaden her horizons and inspire her to take her freelancing career to the next level. She learned a lot she did not know before and was able to gain valuable knowledge and skills. It is clear from Kauthar's testimony that freelancers need quality training and networking, especially for those just getting started. To stay competitive and thrive in a dynamic freelancing market, it is vital to invest in oneself and seek out opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge.

In conclusion, Kauthar's statement illustrates the importance of quality training and networking for freelancers, especially for those just starting. It underscores the importance of investing in oneself and seeking out opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge to stay competitive and thrive in the dynamic freelancing market.

Furthermore, members learned about Kenya's history and diverse cultures through a short visit to the Kenyan National Archives, where they also received inspiration. The study tour had a significant impact on some of the freelancers.

“I am more than happy to be part of this tour it exposed me to new ideas and perspectives, and I am now able to interact with other professionals in my field and learn new ideas and skills from them.” Said Hawa Mohamed, a single mother with two kids who is a full-time online translator and interpreter. Hawa's mention of seeing many major technological advances suggests that the tour was more likely to show the latest developments and technological advances in Kenya.

In Hawaii's statement, she emphasizes the importance of continual professional development and growth in every field of the online industry, as well as the importance of participating in tours and workshops to gain new skills, insights, and connections. She states that it is a great way to hone freelancers' skills, expand their networks, and establish credibility.

Ultimately, the NRC/eMobilis study tour changed the game for some Dadaab Collective Freelancers. These opportunities opened many doors for them, which they will never forget and will always be grateful for it.
